Repairing a GE Small Appliance

GE small appliances such as coffeemakers, microwaves, and mixers can be found in almost every kitchen. If you are having problems with your GE small appliance, there are several things that you can do to save it before you buy a new model. Most small appliances can be used for 10 years or more if they are taken care of. You can troubleshoot the most common issues yourself with little knowledge.

Instructions

Microwave

1 Unplug the microwave and turn it around. Check the power cord for any frays or breaks. These could inhibit the microwave from powering on. This could also cause an electrical fire.
2 Use a screwdriver to remove the screws on the back panel of the microwave. Check the fuse inside the fuse holder. Pull the fuse out of the fuse holder and replace it if needed.
3 Clean the inside of the microwave if you are not getting your food cooked properly. The heat can be obstructed if the inside walls are dirty.
4 Pull the roller rack out of the microwave and clean it. If the roller rack has food stuck on it, it will not rotate properly.
5 Clean the front of your microwave if the buttons will not push in properly.

Toaster

6 Remove the electrical connection from the outlet and then remove the crumb plate from the toaster.
7 Turn your toaster over and then use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the chassis to the toaster.
8 Look over the parts and clean any parts that have food stuck on them. You can use compressed air or a wet rag to clean them.
9 Press down on the toaster's lever and clean the bars that it rolls on if it feels stuck.
10 Check the electrical cable and replace it if you find any frays or breaks. Check the temperature control and make sure that it is not too high or too low for what you are toasting.

Blender

11 Unplug the electrical cord from the outlet in your kitchen. Turn the blender over so you have access to the bottom panel.
12 Use a wet rag and an all-purpose cleaner to clean the bottom of the blender. If the bottom has food or debris on it, the blender will shake or may turn over.
13 Inspect the multi-speed switch and then clean any debris that may be stuck on it. If your switch is not working, you can use a can of compressed air to blow debris off of the inside of the knob.
14 Pull the container off of the blender and check the connection from the blending mechanism to the container.
